about Farrah

So, who is Farrah?

  • My Humble Beginnings

Since a child, I have always had a background of art. Art was my favourite subject at school, studied to A-Levels and was the one subject I took pleasure in doing homework for.

  • Inspired

I have been applying Henna since 2007 when I was encouraged by my beloved auntie to pick up a cone and help her apply Mehndi at a charity event. She believed I had a natural artistic flare and from then I took this beautiful medium to my heart. I still voluntarily help at that same charity event every year to this date.

  • Professional Training

My passion for henna was taken to the next level when I sought professional training by the world famous henna artists Henna Visa and Kiran Sahib. This level of guidance, mentoring and personal practicing has pushed my abilities and has allowed me to build a portfolio I am proud of.

  • Practice Makes Perfect

There is always room for continuous improvement, so In my spare time you will often find me doodling and drawing out designs and when I?m out and about, I?m taking photos of patterns and design inspiration that I see everywhere.

  • Branching Out

In 2015 I discovered and started applying Jagua. this daily new medium which is quite rare in the UK has started a new passion of mine. The feedback from everyone on the blue - black colour has been amazing and I look forward to applying this more in the future as it becomes more mainstream.

What is Mehndi/Henna?

Henna is a small shrub called Lawsonia Inermis. It is commonly found in Asia, and Northern parts of Africa. The leaves of this shrub are dried and made into a powder. It is this powder that is used to make the henna paste which dyes the skin.

Mehndi is art of Henna. This is where the henna paste is used to create patterns on the skin. Mehndi is painless and non-permanent. A mehndi pattern can last between 1-3 weeks depending on the individual's body chemistry and after care.

The terms Henna and Mehndi are often used interchangeably.

Is it safe?

100% pure henna is safe for all on skin and hair, and rarely causes any difficulty on the unbroken skin of a healthy adult.

It is not recommended to apply henna to children under the age of 6 or children known to have a G6PD deficiency.

How long will it last?

On average, the design will look good for 1 to 2 weeks. It will begin fading gradually within that time. Factors that can affect how quickly the design lasts include:
  • depth of the stain
  • body area stained
  • exposure to water, chemicals and rubbing

What is Black Henna?

Please refer to the website NHS Dangers of Black Henna

I only ever use 100% natural henna, with that it is possible to achieve a very dark brown, mahogany type stain. If you want a black henna design, then I would recommend using Jagua.

How do I remove the henna design?

Is it safe to use henna during pregnancy?

Please refer to for detailed information.

What is Jagua?

Jagua is a temporary form of skin decoration resulting from the application of an extract of the unripe fruit Genipa Americana. Jagua works by permanently staining the outermost layer of skin and creating a blue-black temporary tattoo that lasts until the skin regenerates in 7 to 14 days.
